Often, law enforcement officers think about pedestrian safety from the viewpoint of the driver. This makes sense because most officers identify readily with drivers; and as such, they frequently confront pedestrian safety from this perspective.
Pedestrians, however, frequently fit an entirely different demographic from drivers. As opposed to drivers, who fall into a more narrow demographic, all age groups can be (and are) pedestrians. They may not understand traffic signs, and may have limited mobility. As non-drivers, pedestrians often have limited understanding of traffic laws.
It is critical that officers attempt to expand their perspective to focus on both drivers and pedestrians.
