Requirements: Incumbent directs the Continuing Studies Section that provides training and educational programs for a civilian orientation program, basic and refresher civilian in-service, in-service officer training, supervisory, middle management, and executive level leadership training. Requirements: The Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC), a unit of the University of Kansas Continuing Education, wishes to fill two (2) General Police Instructor positions. This is primarily an instructional position and the successful applicant will have the highest credentials and experiential qualifications. This is a non-tenured, full-time, twelve-month continuing appointment, unclassified professional position, subject to annual review. The General Police Instructor will assist in and/or be responsible for the instruction of students in basic, advanced and specialized law enforcement classes, courses and seminars conducted by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. The General Police Instructor is also responsible for development of curricula and learning objectives for general police subjects and instruction of basic training classes and in-service training classes at KLETC and outreach sites across the state. The person in this position will report directly to the Assistant Director of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. Some travel is required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations in the United States recognized by the University of Kansas or the ability to obtain a Baccalaureate degree within six months of hiring; 2. A minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience as a full-time, certified law enforcement officer; 3. A high degree of written communication skills. 4. Holder of or ability to obtain a valid and current Kansas driver’s license. 5. Ability to instruct or be trained to instruct firearms; emergency vehicle operation; physical defense tactics; vehicle stops; and practical training in officer survival. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Post-Baccalaureate degree, or progress toward such degree, in an academic discipline related to education or law enforcement from an institution accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations in the United States recognized by the University of Kansas; 2. Baccalaureate degree specifically in education or an academic discipline related generally to law enforcement from an institution accredited by one of the six regional accreditation associations in the United States recognized by the University of Kansas; 3. Ten years or more of full-time experience as a certified law enforcement officer; 4. Extensive experience in the training, education and/or instruction of adults; 5. Demonstrated ability as a law enforcement instructor in an academy or college setting. 6. A high degree of oral communication skills.
