THE STARTING SALARY FOR A NEW HIRE TO THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO THE RECRUITMENT RANGE OF $ 65,373 to $ 81,275. Salary determination is based upon the candidate's education and experience related to the position, as well as departmental budget and equity considerations.
The North Carolina Department of Justice, led by the Attorney General of North Carolina, represents the State of North Carolina in court and provides legal advice and representation to most state government departments, agencies, officers, and commissions. The Department also represents the State in criminal appeals from state trial courts, and brings legal actions on behalf of the state and its citizens when the public interest is at stake.
The North Carolina Justice Academy offers training programs to criminal justice personnel; provides technical assistance to criminal justice agencies upon request; and develops and distributes educational and training materials. Our mission is to serve the citizens of North Carolina by enhancing the careers of criminal justice officers through research, education, and training.
The Academy has two state campuses to meet the needs of Law Enforcement personnel.
Salemburg Campus
The Salemburg campus has eighteen classrooms, a 200,000-square-foot driving track, three outdoor firing ranges, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, three residence halls, a library, and other practical exercise areas.
Edneyville Campus
The Edneyville campus has nine classrooms, a gymnasium, a cafeteria, a residence hall, a running track, and a state-of-the-art indoor firing range.
In 2017, the Western Regional Crime Laboratory in Asheville moved to the Edneyville campus.

We are looking for a Deputy Director of Operations to join our team at the Eastern Campus.
This position serves as the Chief Fiscal Officer for both campuses, managing the Academy’s budget, setting up and directing cost centers, and supervising the business office and bookstore functions.
This position also serves as the chief campus operations/facilities/safety management official at the Eastern Campus.
Other responsibilities include the directing, planning, and organizing the Accreditation Program for the Justice Academy; acting as a liaison with outside agencies and groups; identifying and developing financial, capital and budgetary plans, and managing the supervision of the course registration, records management and scheduling process for the East Campus.
This is a leadership position responsible for directing and guiding management personnel and reconciling the points of view of people who report to this individual. Work involves formulating major practices and procedures of the NCJA, assisting the Director with developing, establishing and implementing goals and objectives for the NCJA, its long-range programs and accompanying policies.
The Campus Operations Manager, the Instructional Support Services Manager, Research Assistant, Accreditation Manager, and all Business Office personnel report directly to the Deputy Director of Operations.
This position is not subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Master's degree in criminology, criminal justice, public administration, one of the behavioral sciences or a related field, from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of progressively responsible experience in the field, including minimum of three years in a management capacity;
or Doctoral degree in one of the above fields from an appropriately accredited institution, and three years of progressively responsible experience in the field, including one year in administrative or supervisory capacity;
or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Management preferences: Master’s degree in public administration, business administration, accounting, one of the behavioral sciences, or a related field, and five years of progressively responsible experience in the field, including a minimum of three years in a management capacity; or a doctoral degree in one of the above fields, and three years of progressively responsible experience in the field, including one year in an administrative or supervisor capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Administrative or management experience in a criminal justice training environment is desirable. |
